I ended up going back to my AA rechargeable setup and using this as a expensive $23 controller stand that isn't plugged in.

While the base looks almost identical to the Xbox One unit, the lights that show whether the controllers are charged or charging are much dimmer and the controllers are much harder to fit into the stand.
