It's a smoother, warm sound, and not harsh

This mic sounds very smooth and is better suited for fattening up thin vocals or taking the edge off of an acoustic guitar with new strings than many other condensers

Unfortunately I was not willing to sacrifice a good sounding vocal to high noise floors

but I don't like the sound it's giving the vocal

Before I removed the mixer, I didn't like the sound of my voice at all with the NT1A, sounded thin and fake

I would do this because it protects the mic and with some artists it get a better sound but not everyone

This out performs my at4033 mic and is killer for rap vocals, super crisp clean sound, I'm running this thru a saffire pro 14

However, it is not a warm mic at all, and can come out sounding rather sterile (but very clear) with some vocals.

In fact, I prefer the slightly more transparent sound without any pop filter when I can get away with it

It has a strong professional sound, but it did take me a while to learn how to use it and the mixer I bought along with it

Besides it being so warm sounding, the other thing that you should know about it is that it has somewhat less sensitivity/gain than some other mics, which allows it to record higher SPL's like a trumpet, but also means that whispers on vocals won't be as strong either

and I get a great sound out of this for vocals as well as acoustic instruments.

If you want a warm sound for your vocals, price-wise I would suggest something more in the line of an APEX 460 tube mic

its giving me a very accurate sound.

When i hear it through my headphones it sounds fine but when u play it back it sounds horrible and has a bad hissing sound to it

I also have an SM7B, which is definitely fuller than the other condensers I mentioned, but also was a little murky and had a slower, less detailed sound

I now own the studio projects C1 and it is comparable to this one, bit the highs are a bit rolled off, it is a smoother more full sounding mic, the nt1a can sound very bright and sometimes thin on big voices but a good preamp can negate that.

Based on the reviews from experienced recorders, I expected a decent sounding mic for when a "good" studio mic wasn't available

I don't like a tinny sound when I try to record my own voice.

The mic sounds nice direct, but I typically run it through a good tube preamp and the sound is warm and pristine, with the only noise coming from the preamp

The sound is incredible and there is no noise picked up in my recordings whatsoever
