TASCAM DR-40 4-Track Portable Digital Recorder

    • Like most people interested in these types of products, I needed a decent way to record good, crisp audio for DSLR filmmaking
    • card.-It looks like an old taser, you can literally scare people away.-bare bones, if you expect this thing to do much more than your tape recorder can.. forget it
    • Drawbacks: some people say it's too "plasticky" and it does feel a little cheap, but hey if you really think a bit more secure feeling H4n is worth over $100 more, than go for it
    • Some people have also complained that the DR-40 does not have an additional 3.5mm out like the zoom does, but if you have 3.5mm mics already, like some lavaliers or other mics such as as the rode videomic pro, no problem, rode offers a cheap little XLR to 3.5 converter
    • A few people have isolated the issue to Cellphones, Smartphones & RF Interference
    • Other people on the internet have reported this problem as well

    • I'm also getting some clipping on hard P sounds, even though I am not that close to the mics and the level monitor doesn't indicate clipping

    • * Independently adjustable L/R inputs really help you dial in the sound
