TASCAM DR-40 4-Track Portable Digital Recorder

    • My unit broke after a dozen uses when the headphone jack popped out of place and receded into the depths of the body, never to be seen again
    • Super sold unit
    • I've read some reviews that it feels cheap, but I disagree -- it's a solid unit.
    • One unit failed to power on after 4 months of use.
    • This little DR-40 unit works great
    • I wouldn't recommend this expensive unit to anyone.
    • The unit is a bit "plasticky", which is a bit of a letdown for its price, but the quality of the audio it records (from the built-in mics) is excellent to my ears
    • Great unit!!
    • Admittedly, the unit's size (about the same size as an old Walkman or something) limits some of it's mobility, but it's still an extremely powerful unit for such a small package.
    • This unit is affordable, easy to learn and use, and provides excellent audio quality
    • I picked it up because I wanted a portable unit that would let me use 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, and XLR microphones with my DSLR, or capture great audio on its own.
    • Great unit, easy to use.
    • The unit feels very well
    • Great unit - easy to use and works well.
    • He records our sessions with a Zoom and I get better recordings with this, far less expensive, unit.
    • Nice unit with some very desirable options (switchable microphones; XLR inputs, phantom power, dual recording).
    • This unit would be good for students, but not for professional use.
    • But since the unit is working again, and I can't entirely blame the product for the people in customer support, I'm raising the review to three stars
    • Overall, good no... great unit for the money
    • This is a great little unit.
    • This is clearly a design flaw of several of the Tascam units, including the tested DR-40 and the DR-05.If you use the WAV format and stay away from phones, then this unit records very well even with the built in mikes
    • A few minor usability issues, but no big deal this unit is well
    • The DR-40 (as well as several other Tascam units that use the same core electronics) will need a factory re-design of the hardware to fix these problems
    • Without the ability to monitor audio, the unit is worthless.-SD card slot difficult to access
    • Nice unit.
    • Nice portable unit but wish I would have bought the bigger unit
    • Admittedly, the unit's size (about the same size as an old Walkman or something) limits some of it's mobility, but it's still an extremely powerful unit for such a small package.
    • I think they redid something at tascam, because new model has little legs at its back so when you lay unit down on its back the metal locking parts don't touch surface, as it did in previous 3 models that I sent back to Amazon.
    • Nice unit, the packaging clearly states that the SD Card is included, it was NOT in the one I received
    • If this was a defective unit and I confirm good performance from a non-defective unit, I will be more than happy to change my review to indicate the true performance of the product
    • I haven't used it much in quieter settings, but for recording a live band this is the best unit I have found in it's price range.
    • Love this unit
    • Good entry-level unit.
    • Like all the Tascam units I have purchased, this is a wonderful unit, however so much is designed into such a small unit, it takes a rocket scientist to understand and remember all the functions that it has.
    • A few minor usability issues, but no big deal this unit is well
    • If you're doing recording on those neat U-shaped rigs, this mounts nicely on top to capture that sweet audio.
    • I want to like it, from reviews I
