Sadly, the TCL 49" could not handle the darker areas well at all

After mounting, upon startup the screen was noted to be missing a good area of pixels at the lower right (I presume from mishandling by FedEx because that was the corner of the box damaged).

Streaming programs look better than the discs but the TV still has problems with posterizing dark areas or where there is an abrupt dark/light switch that tweaking settings doesn't entirely remove

Even after changing tv settings, my photos are either oversaturated, not saturated enough, or can't accurately display a gradual fade to dark areas

I tested out a few games and I only saw one small flaw, in dark areas (like the entirety of RE7) you can clearly see the light of TV on the edges mainly the bottom, it’s not super distracting or

It will meet the needs of nearly anyone looking for a 4k or smart TV.The major issue with my set is that after 9 months the dark areas of the screen have started to flicker when watching anything

It started to show dark gray areas on the screen that continued to get larger as time went on!

Other issue is in some games the black in some dark areas don't look good either and can be disorienting as you can't make out anything in like sections of caves such as in Destiny 2

I'd say the blacks are not as great as on a couple of other TV

Anything else on the market that isn't an OLED screen is more expensive and their Smart Services don't work nearly as smoothly

Only has 3 HDMI ports, but that's fine as you can use an HDMI switch if needed
