I have heard awesome things from the wizarding world of networking that I could potentially plug in an external hard drive plugged into the cable modem router and back up my laptop and surface pro wirelessly

The hard drive was another story.

I could see and browse the hard drive but not add, change or delete anything from it.

Although I have yet to do this, I do prefer backing everything up hardwired and then unplugging the hard drive

There are 2 USB ports on the cable modem where you can plug in a USB thumb drive, hard drive, or printer, and then, in the web interface share the devices on the local network, or map a drive or printer to them

I also have my hard drive shared without problem.

Also if I enable the USB hard drive, the admin page stops working

Also I have a 3GB hard drive connected via the USB port
