If batteries go dead you can put any AA batteries in and its ready to listen to.

Rechargeable batteries only down fall is ut don't work on ac when charging.

However it does drain the batteries fairly quickly, so buying some rechargeable batteries is a good idea.

Other than the fact that the charger is not smart enough to maintain the proprietary battery pack, this is a good, flexible radio.
