By shear luck I put the "new" disk (1TB 850 Evo, btw <-- nice disk) in a USB case I had and dug out my Windows boot CD

I found out that the duplicator only duplicates the original 60GB drive and does not include the remaining hard disk space into a single drive.

A 2TB drive took overnight, but the above 160GB clone took about 75 minutes - USB3 performance not up to other USB3 StarTech SATA drive adapters, but is 50-75% better than USB2 - disk erase is only a single pass erase, so does not suffice for meeting HITECH/HIPAA or other legal requirements for deleting data - entire

Coped a ZFS snapshot down, cloned a pair of disks, and erased a disk on this dock so far

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone needing to duplicate a hard disk or access a loose hard disk.

Here's why: While the disks are 40GB capacity, the amount of actual data I'm copying is maybe 20GB (these are base Windows XP installs with 2 other apps, for a computer lab in a high school); and, in general, hard disks fill up from the beginning, so I gambled that the 1% shaved off the source would be unallocated data at the "end" of the drive
