My expectations were not particularly high for an $8 plastic instrument, but Yamaha usually makes pretty decent cheap instruments across the board.
but I can say for sure that it is a durable instrument!
The intonation on this "cheap" instrument is very impressive.
I am simultaneously happy that he is enjoying this instrument and exploring music, and frightened that his current fad with the recorder might be long lasting
And honestly, the music recorder is probably the most annoying musical instrument I can think of....with the harmonica way up there as well
Out of pity for the teacher, you also don't want to get the cheapest plastic whistle you can find.
This recorder is just like the other ones in the music class and sounds just as high pitched and annoying as I remembered them to be many years ago
It is out of tune and sounds like a cheap plastic whistle from a box of Crackerjacks.2/5 stars
Bought as a toy for my 18th month old who broke all his toy whistles for kids.
was a loud whistle blowing around my house while i'm on the phone or watching tv

Yamaha's 20 and 30 Series recorders are designed to provide a perfect start to anyone's musical education
They offer an ideal amount of air resistance for easy control, and feature an accuracy of intonation you would expect to find only one more expensive models
Though other maker's plastic recorders may have a similar appearance, Yamaha ABS recorders are truly superior instruments
Models are available with either 'German' or 'Baroque' fingering systems
The 20 series, easy to play throughout their ranges, are primarily intended for beginners
30 series recorders, which feature an arched wind-way for improved breath control and tonal expression, are for more advanced players
Note: The G stamp on the packaging indicates German style fingering (not the key).
