These have solved problems for me on several songs where an effective cymbal wash is needed followed by standard sticking

They are sold as cymbal mallets but the beater head is too hard for a nice soft starting cymbal roll

I use a Meinl 17" classic orchestra cymbal and it comes to life VERY well....nice.
