That way I can tailor it to suit the sensitivity of the equipment I have connected, this is a really useful feature if you also have backup generators that may produce voltage slightly outside normal specifications

Some really cool features of the SMT1500 that I like are:1

They have a long life and excellent reporting feature set.

It has self diagnostics that runs on intervals to keep the battery capacity meter accurate and a really nice Plug setup feature (see below) plus adjustable voltage trip points along with a slew of other menu options.2) I can assign different plugs on the rear of the UPS to have different priority for reserve power.

But if you realize that this is, in my opinion, nothing more than a few lawnmower batteries packed tightly inside a metal case, with some supporting electronics and a fancy display, you'll see that you're only buying a few minutes of up-time upon power failure, and reliability of these devices has proven to me to be equal less than that of the desktop PCs we use in these locations

The price is good for what they do (protect and power servers and related equipment).

This is a good product for a reasonable price.

The worst part about any APC Smart-UPS product, in my opinion, is the management software and instructions

The SMT 1500RM2U is a pure sine wave Smart UPS with a voltage output that is cleaner than any voltage you will get from your utility company, we have checked this with our oscilloscopes at work and believe me the voltage output is perfectly clean and the UPS will keep a rock steady output to all devices connected to it with protection from spikes and dips happening even in a fraction of a microsecond

It gives you more than enough time to shut everything down and still has enough power to power the phone system and keep the settings alive

At three years the batteries are still good, and random tests/logs show they are keeping clean power to the machines (and home theater equipment), and shut down the PCs as expected

Reporting, reliability, rackable with all the right screws, rails, etc

APC has sent us rails as a courtesy in the past and such gestures of good faith and the level of customer service keeps winning our business.

Chose 4 out of 5 stars because haven't yet had a power failure to find out how well the backup performs.

The unit is more dense than most 2U gear, so it should be installed at the bottom, if you're racking it.

This is a great unit and I have all my servers and devices in my rack from on these of these devices.

Great unit - put in the SNMP management card (APC AP9630) and you can configure the outlet groups, when they turn off, etc...
