This product makes it easier to recharge my radio battery instead of having to take up a cigarette socket in my vehicle or an outlet at home since all I need is a free USB port

Haven't had the need/opportunity to fully test this adapter, but it appears to be a good product, and as many of us carry usb chargers, even my portable "start-pack" has usb outlets as well as cigar lighter ones.

Obviously you want the radio powered off while it is charging just like with the desktop cradle

Baofeng recommends that you always have the radio turned off while charging regardless of what charger you use or battery you have.

Another easy way to charge up your radio

The easy way to fix this i've found is to take a needle and bend the two metal contacts on the 2.5 mm plugs towards the center of the yellow ring/middle of the plug

One of the next four was bad also, but when I cut the cable and tested both the voltage step up (upstream) side and the 2.1mm connector (downstream) side, the voltage regulator worked (5.0 v from USB to 9.22v to the battery) and the problem was the connector
