2007 Suburban with the 5.3L. The oil pressure gauge read at good levels until it was warmed up, then randomly would drop to zero, even though the engine sounded fine with no signs of low oil pressure

The 5.3 engine is not the cleanest engine in the world when it comes to oil for a few reasons.

Worked fine and oil pressure gauge reads correctly again on my gmc yukon

The code scanner shows nice consistent oil pressure averaging in the mid 50psi range and the gauge shows similar

it is not necessarily intended to protect the Oil Pressure sensor.

The oil was very dirty and the oil change place had put in a very cheap filter, so I decided that it couldn't hurt to try that before we go dropping oil pans and replacing pick-up tube o-rings and all

And you damn well better replace if going through the trouble of replacing the oil sending unit

Installing the oil pressure sensor (which you might as well replace as it is a high failure rate item) will insure the filter is seated properly

I would recommend replacing this if replacing

Highly recommend and was installed in a 09’ Suburban with the 5.3L.

Easy install with new OPSU.

When installed along with a new sensor, immediately fixed my oil pressure sensor problem.

As such, the main engine oil filter can clog and go into bypass mode which sends unfiltered oil into this new AFM filter and your oil pressure gauge may indicate an oil pressure problem with or without ODB2 codes

Since then I have run it several times, and so far no more oil pressure problems
