I recommend the high setting as it works very fast on thick nails, and the noise does not scare my big dogs, but if you have a really skittish dog or one with nails that are thinner, the low setting would be just fine.

We do not use the low speed as the high speed works best for our dogs

Low speed for softer nails and high speed for the harder nails.

The switch that you use to turn it on to either slow or fast speed is really clumsy and kind of a pain to use

Between the loud noise, the horrible smell, and the fact that the dog was pulling as though I were attempting to amputate her paw, it made an already crappy task even worse.

You might want to wear a mask when you use it because nail dust goes everywhere, but this is way better for the pet

This works great for me, i have an 80 lb pitbull whose nails grow like no tomorrow, the clippers werent doing good since he has thick nails and the would split

My dog hates the traditional clippers but the Dremel makes the whole experience far less traumatic on him than it has to be.
