He loves the bolster around the edge where he can put his chin.

When they give measurements, they give them inside of the bolster; the bolsters are very full and wide and actually interfere with stretching out flat

The mattress has its own cover that is washable by the outer part that the dog lays on does not come loose from the bottom portion which feels filled with foam
