I think it's just part of getting used to it (they also usually pinch their fingers in regular board books when learning to turn the pages, too)- the buttons are REALLY sensitive - they touch with just barely a brush - this is good because it makes it easy for little fingers to use, but it also makes them push buttons on the opposite page with the hand they're just holding it with and not tapping
