I love Melissa and Doug products, the ones that we have bought have been excellent quality.
The color pencils that came along with the set are extremely poor quality at best--right out of the box, 2 of the 4 pencils had a broken tip--sure, no big deal, it happens
I would highly recommend this one, it's very good quality as well!
Unfortunately, it was a half-hearted attempt at recreating the beloved toy with a poor design and horrible quality

The so-called 'design crayon' is a dark crayon with a little holder/handle that makes it easier to rub and transfer the pattern onto
My 7 year old grandaughter really liked this kit, but the black crayon broke easily and the facination wore off quickly because of the limited options for creating fashion designs.
Since she is three, my daughter prefers crayons to the colored pencils it came with.
The only downside is that the black crayon used to trace broke the first time it was used, so the tracing is not that even anymore.
Doesn't hold paper very well but we showed her how to secure it while she is making the image.
I was worried about: 1) The odd paper size (Because, frankly, it would be a pain in the rear to custom-cut endless pieces of paper for my Little Fashion Designer); 2
My 5 year old really wanted this, however it is not used as often as I had hoped due to the odd paper size needed
