You will then have to set up a work-around with midi routing to an additional track in Ableton/ your DAW and toggle back and forth changing focus between these two tracks or "plugin" mode to play keyboard notes with the light guide features and "midi mode" to control any parameters with the encoder knobs
I purchased the S49 MK2 specifically because of its supposed great DAW integration and of course support for NI Komplete instruments
They have included quite a lot of very nice DAW-specific function keys, like full control buttons, 'Auto' button, 'Quantize' button, and Undo/Redo button.

There are some very nice synths and a terrific drum kit to work with that once setup within a Reason VST are very easy to browse, load, and work with from the controller itself

When I caught wind of the MkII I was skeptical, but seeing the beautiful color screens, the re-introduction of the wheel along with a ribbon controller, DAW integration, etc...I was sold.
The screens also offer decent display angles, though I would prefer a little more tilt

First off, it is by no means as well mapped out of the box as the Panorama, so you will have to build your own control mappings, but once you have the hang of that, this controller is a joy to use with the Kontact Select software included with the controller
Not a great controller unless you're heavily invested in the Native Instruments ecosystem
A decent controller, though the capabilities of Komplete Kontrol are not impressive at the moment (no layering, in maschine cannot point to a different track that the maschine controller).
Semi-weighted action of the keys are fantastic, which is a lot to say these days with cheap midi controller construction
I got this to supplement my studio logic sl88 grand controller for fast synth leads and drums and the long key

I also really love the feel of the pitch and mod wheels
Good resistance and grippy feel

The knobs and buttons just have nice solid feel with no slop
