No sharp tacks to fall on floor (I have a small child).
This is very handy, especially if you don't want tacks punching holes in something.
Also good for kids so they don't have to handle sharp tacks.

So I bought this, which is not only a sticky surface but also a tack board
You don't need to tack things to this small bulletin board; they just stick to the sticky surface
I'm still not used to the sticky surface, but it holds well and it's easy to relocate things if you need to shift notes around.
