Output connectors transmit a funny digital test signal, and the input connectors detect this signal and display the results (of which pins on one end of the cable are attached to which pins on the other) on the LED matrix.
The matrix is very useful as it tells you which pin from the IN goes to where on the OUT.HOWEVER: When testing cables like a 3.5mm TRS (headphone) to stereo RCA, the unit's response can be confusing

The LED in the top right hand corner shows that Pin1/Sleeve on the input is going to Pin1/Sleeve on the output side.8

I love this box, but I hope to see it mature and become even easier to use than it already is
This box is not worth the cost of the metal used to make it.
I'd give it 5 stars, but that would be saying it's perfect as-is, and the box doesn't need any improvement
