This is a plastic everything case..... and though sturdy enough, the catches are plastic also.... the TSA latches on my Fender Stratocaster case are made of metal and are of a different design (definitely better quality).Concerning the smell.... if SKB is going to use plastic everything they could at least cure it from outgassing before selling.....
