One big con on this game comes from the Activision marketing department, who is clearly trying to figure out a way to extract more and more money from the players, is that now you have to have a Trap Master of an element to get into the special areas (previously, any skylander of that element would do).
For exploring everything in this new version, you must have: one trap master of each element; one trap of each element plus the Kaos trap (if you want to play as Kaos); unknown trap (there are villains that you have to put in unknown traps); maybe unknown trap masters (there are gates that you must have an unknown character)

So now you have to go out and buy a set of traps in addition to one trap master of each element
Activision, the company that makes this game has decided that in order to unlock certain gates in the game, gates that come up VERY often in the game, you must buy a brand new figure, a Trap Master, one for every element

My five year-old son loves the concept, and, since he is not quite facile enough to control the characters, he loves the fact that he has the power to exchange players and crystals on the platform

However as a parent and purchaser the fact you need different characters and elemental traps to even progress in the game is absolutely crazy
