In the end Sony's hobbling didn't prevent the rise of Napster and file sharing did it?At least this current species of MiniDisc did alot more than its older cousins, but by then it was too late and Sony yet once again lost to another company, even with its larger 1GB disc you can still carry alot more on a basic MP3 player

But Sony was SO worried about this that consumers might make copies of music they hobbled MiniDisc for the better part of a decade when it could have replaced the cassette as a primary portable music device

I used to be a loyal Sony customer, but now believe they have gone almost irretrievably downhill.

I previously owned three other MD players, all of which worked just fine, but none of which did all the Kathmandu can.

By contrast Apple replaced my daughter's iPod no questions asked when it started developing hard disk hiccups.-Trying to find Hi-MDs offers the thrill of the hunt, if you're into that kind of thing.

SONY is really screwing the pooch, as they could absolutely rule the mp3 world, with major improvements, because with these Hi MD players, if the unit messes up, you don't lose your music, because it is on a removable disc, whereas with a conventional mp3 player, if something happens to the unit, you're done

ATRACplus files with Sony's software (in your PC, I mean).-Hi-MD blank discs are scarce, not even sony online store has them in stock at the moment of this review
