I connected the kinect using a different xbox and worked just fine.. will return it and hope the replacement works this time..

Microsoft has stopped supporting the Kinect for the Xbox one S and so this Kinect really does not work unless you have a Xbox one S adapter which was selling for several times for cost since Microsoft does not make the adapter anymore
