Some claim "compatible" toners are just as good, and others say they are not - for me, the price difference per print is not worth taking the risk, so I use actual Brother toner.

Initially I had a problem with their Brother TN-350 toner cartridge which was apparently leaking toner onto the pages producing very wide solid black stripes down printed pages at times.

Toner is toner, pretty boring really.

The Brother toners work explicitly well with its printers and just can't be replaced by cheap toner alternatives
