Neither of them handles cycling very well, but the Garmin does a nice job of tracking my running

It didn't do a very good job at tracking workouts, I played basketball for an hour and didn't even recognized that I had been running

Also, I've been swimming several times and it does a fine job under water

The V3 uses Garmin's "MoveAlert" technology that senses when you're getting after it and does a reasonably good job reflecting the activity.

My Samsung Gear Fit did a much better job at including my swims (even though it didn't specifically track swimming as an activity)
