I did loose a few days of data waiting for the Vivofit 3 to arrive after loosing the Vivofit 2 but the new device synced without problems and old data still exits from my Vivofit 2.

The battery has to be replaced once a year ( though my first vivofit's battery lasted well over a year and a half before I lost it.)3
