Thankfully mine came from Amazon packed in a larger box with some other items (soft items).I've used super zooms from Canon, Tamron, Sigma and several others and have never felt that I was getting this level of performance.

While, of course, not an equal to prime lenses or even the much more expensive shorter zooms for the Sony, it does a very good job and one has to carry considerably fewer lenses.
