  • A good compromise over packing several prime lenses for travel shooting.
  • Those are really good lenses, but they would add bulk to your camera bag and take an extra $1600 or so out of your wallet
  • I had to return it, also wasn't as sharp as my other lenses.
  • Also a couple of times when shooting with the A7 my ring finger unintentionally pushed the lens release button that is on the right side of the camera (I find that Nikon with the button on the left side makes changing lenses more secure and easy)
  • I do not have to lug around three lenses to accomplish the same task,

Reviews around build (5.00 of 5)

  • It is just a good, well built, solid zoom lens with an excellent zoom range.
  • It's fairly smooth though, and the lens feels solid and well built, but comes at the cost of added weight

  • A prime lens gives you brilliant results in most kind of condition; this lens has to be mastered and if you understand how to use it you can definitely have sharp result
  • Using it without a tripod will result having a camera which will be not exactly a "keeper": you will have sharp results on still objects in AF-S and moving objects in AF-C but you will lose shots depending on your hands shaking
  • The only one reason I would suggest to use this lens on a Sony A6000 or 6500 is because the issue related to sharpness is at the edges of the lens, but with a crop factor of 1.5 you are most likely to cut off the edges and have sharp result
  • On one hand Dxomark registered very sharp results at wider angles and f11 and the lens is capable to keep it sharpness till 50mm at f/11 especially in the center of the frame, while, zooming in the lens start loosing sharpness
  • It gives me a tremendous range of use without having to swap lens (thus avoiding polluting glass and sensor), and a zoom that produces great results.

Reviews around travel (5.00 of 5)

  • No it's not the sharpest nor the fastest but for convenience and for a do-it-all travel
  • Great if not the best travel lens you can get for your Sony cameras
  • And the zoomed pictures from the HX400 are as clear as if the lenses were made of plastic.
  • I thought perhaps I had a bad copy and would exchange, but after seeing other images posted on line (see Steve Huff blog) that were as soft as

Reviews around work (5.00 of 5)

  • Seems to be working well enough as a very flexible able all around lens, and is well made, but, at the same time, is very expensive, and very heavy and is without a motor zoom.
  • I do also take pictures, the auto focus was fast & worked well for me

  • Good sharp image at most focal lengths, focus ring is a bit hard, lens is quite heavy, priced a bit high.
  • After noticing that the images were less sharp then every other lens i compared it to at a camera show I checked its DXOmark ratings at [...].
  • The lens failed to achieve sharp images, even when manually focused on my A7r at essentially all focal lengths.

  • and I will try to help people understanding what kind of Market this lens is for and what is the best camera to use it
  • So with the SmallRig plate, the camera and lens balance well on the tripod.
  • Some shots will come through fantastic (those taken perfectly lit, camera is still, no wind blowing) with perfect sharpness, other shots (usually a little shaded, possibly in motion as walking through a town will give you {no tripod}) come through looking like they were taken with a 110 disposable
  • There is a significant play between the lens and camera that is annoying when turning the zoom ring
  • The real excitement will be for A6000 series users which will have a lens with a focal length of 52.5x360mm: this means that even if it's not a prime you can have great portrait at f3.5 with a creamy bokeh at 52mm and you will also be able to use the camera hands free at its maximum range of 360mm

Reviews around mm (4.10 of 5)

  • If you are looking for a longer focal length though, there are better solutions than this lens for about 70 dollars more at your local camera/electronics store (70-300mm G lens is my recommendation). This lens (24mm-240mm) works best in bright environments
  • I tested this lens versus my 18-105mm and it was just as sharp as my favorite 18-105mm
  • For the last 3 years, my basic equipment has been a Nikon D600 or D750 with the 28-300 mm super zoom lens.
  • But the 24-240mm on my Alpha 7ii camera, while not perfect, delivers pretty sharp pictures at high resolutions
  • K-1 with 24-70mm/70-200mm, this a7iii/24-240mm is like a baby.

Reviews around quality (4.03 of 5)

  • Better sharpness and quality than expected from review articles.
  • , debris filled environments- Prevents continuous swapping of lens'- Takes a great quality image (great
  • I just wish Sony would have produced a 24-120 or 24-150 that would have been a little lighter with better quality at wide angle and possibly with constant f:4 aperture
  • Decent quality but heavy as noted by many other reviewers
  • Sharp, manual, cheap, great build quality (FOR PHOTOS ONLY)

Reviews around zoom (3.78 of 5)

  • The built quality is really good: solid metal and a smooth zoom, giving you the possibilities to use it for videos, even if the ring is positioned far from where you usually hold your camera, but in less than a week I could make myself comfortable with the heavy metal lens Sony
  • I've read a lot of reviews from people who've said that this is the price you have to pay for a zoom range like this
  • It is just a good, well built, solid zoom lens with an excellent zoom range.
  • For the last 3 years, my basic equipment has been a Nikon D600 or D750 with the 28-300 mm super zoom lens.
  • The zoom is stiff, which I could get used to, but it's worth saying

Reviews around focus (3.22 of 5)

  • I think the overall focusing on the Sony A7Sii is imperfect and needs improvement, and when testing it with autofocus on, I had minor issues with it keeping up
  • Another reviewer here mentioned that shooting in A, S, or M mode in low light will be fine, but don't expect fast focusing in low light in Auto or P mode.
  • I've enjoyed the 4K and 1080p 120fps this lens has helped delivered, and while I have noticed it is difficult to avoid a soft focus from a distance at times, overall it hasn't been bad at all as some claim
  • It's a lens to be considered for a fast Auto focus from early morning till twilight
  • ... you do expect fast focusing with the money but it alo may be me as well.

  • The mechanisms is a bit hard to turn to reach the different zoom lengths but one might call that sturdy construction.

  • This ‘bokeh’ effect of the blurred background can be enhanced with circular aperture blades used in this lens
  • Conventional aperture blades have flat sides creating unappealing polygonal shaped defocussed points of light
  • α lenses overcome this problem through a unique design that keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular from its wide-open setting to when it is closed by 2 stops
  • Smoother, more natural defocusing can be obtained as a result.Aspherical lens elementsAspherical lens design dramatically reduces spherical aberration while also reducing lens size and weight
  • Spherical aberration is a slight misalignment of the light rays projected on the image plane
  • This is caused by differences in refraction at different points on conventional spherical lenses which degrade image quality in large-aperture lenses
  • Specially shaped “aspherical” elements near the diaphragm restore alignment of light rays at the image plane, maintaining high sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture and can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion
  • Well-designed aspherical elements can reduce the total number of elements required in the lens, thus reducing overall size and weight.Internal focusingOnly the middle groups of the optical system move to achieve focus, so the overall length of the lens does not change
  • Other important benefits include fast autofocusing and a short minimum focusing distance
  • Also, the filter thread at the front of the lens does not rotate, which is convenient if you’re using a polarizing filter.Lens-based optical image stabilizationGyro sensors built into the lens detect even the slightest movement, and the stabilization lens is precisely shifted to counteract any image blur that might occur
  • The use of precision, quiet linear motors and technology inherited from high-end Sony professional camcorders results in exceptionally quiet, effective image stabilization that contributes to high-quality movies as well as stills
