I can't speak to the protection it offers because I haven't dropped my phone on the screen yet, but from reading the info, it seems like it is designed to be a sacrificial layer that will absorb any impact and may shatter on hard impacts, but it will protect the phone screen itself.

i am amazed by how this screen protector protected my phone.. my phone slammed to the floor so so hard from a very hard impact and let me tell you .. i was almost crying because i was almost sure my whole front of the phone would be cracked.. but i picked up my phone and luckily the screen protecter shattered and as i peeled it off .. not one scratch or crack in my screen!!

It hasn't had any hard impact as yet,but so far it's been holding up to my daily use

The screen is as clear and responsive as when I were using a plastic screen protector
