Well when they no longer retract and are stuck in the down position the cable just falls out of what ever its plugged into

I don't have very good luck with the flimsy cables that come with phones, but these are holding up well.

We each used these daily, and after about 3 weeks and within a couple of days of each other both cables stopped working

However, 1 cable has already stopped working and can not charge and of my android devices anymore

The cables themselves are also pretty firm - which feels quality, but the cables are less flexible than some other braided cables I've gotten

These are awesome cables...solid construction and quality materials!They actually snap in when I connect the micro USB end to my device

This is the sort of item that you don't typically "appreciate" as they are more of a behind the scenes item
