The Q300 drivers are only a bit larger, at 6.5", but give richer, deeper bass.

As the bass port is in the back, 2-3 feet between the speakers and the wall behind them prevents boomy/unpredictable bass response

I do have a hsu vtf3 mk5 coming in for the sub, but you really don't need a sub with these for enjoyment, as their bass is quite adequate for most listening and watching.

Classical orchestral music sounds neutral; the M 12 does not emphasize any notes, although the polished highs and controlled bass of speakers that cost at least twice its price are missing

For nearly three times the price I paid for the M 12, the CM5 offers a more polished sound (although the M12 mid-range can occasionally beat the 2-way CM5), more powerful and more controlled bass, but not the sound stage that you can get from well-designed three-way speakers

(I posted a detailed review on the M 10 on Amazon), the largest of which being the inclusion of two mid/bass drivers that restricts the Motion 10 to be a rear speaker even in a home theater setup

My conclusion was that to triple the cost of main speakers by getting the Q500 over the Q300 would still necessitate getting a subwoofer for adequate bass extension, and the sound of the total system would be scarcely different than by just getting the Q300 set.

This can be important if one is using an amplifier that isn’t rated for high wattage, or for those looking for really loud levels for movies or music, as well as those sitting farther away from their speakers.
