I had to have it very close to my modem when I was connecting the unit using the Smart Life App
However, after re-downloading the Smart Life App, I was able to have control through voice over the 8 outlets.
The companion app, Smart Life, gives you access to turning each individual plug on and off as well as the USB ports, along with the over all on/off control

Compared to buying one off smart plugs that cost $30 each, I’d much rather stick with a power strip like this.
It was relatively easy to setup and the it is a sturdy power strip
Also this smart power strip takes up no more space than an ordinary power strip and the price wasn't much more either.
It took some time and a bit of frustration to get the Smart Power Strip to work with my iPhone.
I bought this smart power strip & although I had a time setting it up once up & connected to my Google Home mini, I am amazed at it's responsiveness & sturdy build

I highly recommend this Strip if you are looking into smart devices.
When it came back up, all of my other smart devices connected automatically
It seems these generic smart devices have come a long way in the past two years and are as good as some of the big name brands like Kasa and Hue which are much more expensive or require some kind of hub
I often hate when smart devices are pushed but the ability to use it as we have in the past is taken away
One thing that I didn’t like about most generic smart devices is that they all required you to download a new app

Smart outlets would help with this, but they're usually pretty expensive when you have to buy a lot
Thus this can be used for several appliances, each being attached to a Smart outlet
This outlet is better than other smart outlets I've tried
I've used Belkin Wemo smart outlets before and their setup was horrible

The ability to control each device that is plugged in via the app is a great feature but the MAIN way that I am using this power strip is with my google home mini
The smart features are what we are here for though and this does not disappoint
One final thing about the design of the strip: having the plugs pointed sideways is a good design feature because I am able to plug in a device that has a big power brick without taking up two outlets
