First I want to start by saying the wood was cracked on 4 of the small back support boards, all the boards were scratched or marred

but, then, you run the risk of breaking the flimsy pre-drilled particle board holes which i also did on two shelves

I left off the solid black backer board that attaches to the back of the unit, to have a more open appearance.

I was surprised to see that the shelves aren't actual wood, but just cheap, reinforced particle board with a laminate veneer of black wood grain on top
