Doesn’t read out the one code it says I have just no codes available to be read

I recently bought an older truck and my check engine light came on and wanted something inexpensive to read and clear the codes

My truck had been experiencing very intermittent codes being thrown and while it is running fine, it was preventing an emmission check from being able to be passed.

Also it allows you to be able to erase codes

The reason I'm putting 4 stars instead of 5 is that in the documentation it says that you can erase faulty codes

For some reason this device only erases codes but will not read/show me any pending or stored codes.
