To recover you must pull the device from the host PC's USB port and re-insert

An issue I've had is when there was a surge on the adapter when an iPhone 6+ was plugged in that killed the Surface Pro USB port - also noticed that using Logitech Unifying receiver, the port was somewhat laggy.

Newer model super portable laptops tend to lack an ethernet port and only have one USB port.

I get very good Ethernet speeds (true gigabit Ethernet, or 941 Mb/s to be exact, according to several runs of iperf), and there's more than enough USB3 ports when I need one

The design is an obvious no brainer for the port deficient machines that come out of Cupertino.

Sturdy construction, enough ports for a laptop, instant connection, no software.

I primarily needed it for the ethernet port, but the 3 USB 3.0 ports are an awesome bonus

I've had all three USB 3.0 plugs being used as well as the Ethernet port with zero problems

It's great as a low profile "dock" from my Surface 4 (providing wired internet as well as additional ports), and to clean up the desk a little for my laptop being used as a desktop

All in all, this is a great buy if you don't want to waste a thunderbolt port on your mac just for ethernet or if you want to have more USB ports in general.

I bought this to go with my Dell M3800, a thin laptop with no wired ethernet and precious few USB ports.

Since I can return to Amazon relatively easily, I purchased this device, so that I can free up both my Thunderbolt ports on my 13" Macbook Pro, and have a few extra USB 3 ports at the same time, but I did so apprehensively reading the concerns with drivers and thru-put here, and especially one review that said that the ethernet port is hanging off a USB2 Hub in the USB device tree, suggesting that thru-put would be capped at USB2 speeds
