Yes, it charges your phone even through a phone case, but you have to lay your phone down 2-5 times on it before it will start charging

I put the charger on the end table by the couch so when I watch tv that is where I lay my phone.

It does not charge as fast as plugging a phone in, but that maybe common.

It travels well and once you figure out how your phone needs to lay on it, it isn't really an issue again
