I have no idea about the specifics for servers, or how far it should be away from equipment to prevent feedback loop, but for home use, the unit is silent and works flawlessly.2
I liked how this worked so much that I put a second one in my upstairs media room and have my TV, stereo, Internet, and cable going to it.
I have it connected to a 27" iMac, external monitor and 3 external HDDs, works great.

I had an APC XS 1000 unit that the battery died on, so I decided that I would go for the larger 1500 unit so that the system would last through longer outages.

If you have a unit with a bad battery do not start the unit up.
