It's a pretty solid home UPS; I wouldn't use it in a server application since the power output on battery is chopped instead of pure sine wave (which puts a lot of extra strain on a PC's power supply), but for a home user who just wants to be able to save their work and perform a clean shutdown when the power goes out, it's a solid unit

Buy a better unit than this if it's important.

My next one will be a pure sine wave unit; I've gotten to where I have enough expensive stuff on it that I'd prefer a higher end UPS

Whether the unit itself is not very good, or the replacements available through Amazon are not very good, the end result is the same: Not getting the power protection, I think if APC was serious about supporting their product they would make it easier to find a working replacement
