Apple iPod Classic 80GB Black (6th Generation) (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

    • so maybe I will notice a slight drag when the disc is closer to full, but let's be fair here and admit that the non-Nana ipods are hard drive devices and you should allow a LITTLE patience
    • This can easily be used as a portable hard drive if needed
    • Ipod was not functional, hard drive was corrupt and battery died within an hour of charging it
    • Only gripe is the hard drive makes audible clicking sounds, but it's not an issue.
    • etc., and didn't put a dent in the 80 GB hard drive
    • So far it looks like the hard drive is dead
    • but I guess thats the difference between flash memory and a hard drive
    • It looks virtually brand new, has a new battery, hard drive and case back that I know of.
    • Plugged it into my computer to sync after about a month and the hard drive failed
    • Unfortunately, once iTunes is screwed up you have your choice of never loading a new song on your Ipod again or wiping your hard drive clean.
    • I don't have enough music to fill the 80g hard drive
    • But eventually the hard drive fails on the iPod.
    • It only took 16 months till the hard drive broke.
    • The hard drive is
    • I loved this ipod til i took it to the apple store and someone sold me an ipod with a faulty hard drive
    • the device itself is great, click wheel works perfectly, movies look great and hard drive size is awesome
    • I purchased this IPOD and in less than a week the hard drive in it started making noises and quit working
    • It also maybe that its just hard drive based that causes this sluggishness
    • So unless riding in the car shakes these things too much for the hard drive, they are crap
    • I may "upgrade" to 1.03 firmware I hear is out, 1.02 locked some hard drives on
    • Reading about the Sony 16 gig unit (which I would have bought had it been priced better), it seems that not only does it have much better sound than the IPod (according to many reports), it also has the ability to drag folders of music right onto its icon on one's hard drive (AND RETAIN song title info!
    • He puts on brand new screen, face and backplates, and claims to replace with a re-certified hard drive and new battery
    • The casing was all new and there are no problems with the hard drive.
    • The music is easy to upload/change/customize with Itunes (just make sure your computer has a hard drive large enough), the music is easy to browse through with the "cover flow", you can upload playlists, the pictures get converted to a different format before loading onto the Ipod so it saves space, and one of the best features is the ability to upload games!!
    • This is a huge jump in capacity for the low end hard drive ipod.
    • Pro's- Great Value (compared to the nano and itouch)- Big Hard drive (you can pretty much store everything you want on
    • For only $250, you are getting almost 3 times the hard drive space from the previous model (5.5 generation), you also get the new interface, a slimmer body, all metal casing and a super bright screen
    • seemed like a corrupt hard drive
    • The Nano doesn't have this delay issue, so it must be related to the hard-drive slower access times.
    • Unfortunately, once iTunes is screwed up you have your choice of never loading a new song on your Ipod again or wiping your hard drive clean.
    • For starters, I'm extremely pleased that Apple discontinued making iPods that have less then 80 GBs of hard drive space
    • Had an 5th generation for roughly five years before it broke completely, nothing changes much from generation to generation in the sense of software, the only massive change you might notice is the increase of the hard drive space 5th gen only had roughly 30
    • So far it looks like the hard drive is dead
    • iTunes is still proprietary, and I would love to see the iPod have a hard disk indexing system like spotlight that would allow dragging and dropping so I could use Finder or Windows Explorer to move files around and put them in the folders I thought made since (Think external hard drive with an interface on the go)
    • Apple has looked at this reality of so few people ripping to 320 kbps, at least for the time being, and has decided to invest your 349.99 in the iPod on a new graphical experience and bigger hard drive rather than a really nice audio chip (Think BMW vs. Ford on the audio chip)
    • So I took my ipod to a ipod repair shop and I was told by them and apple that the hard drive was bad and the harddrive for this ipod is $99.00 plus labor for installing the hard drive
    • This can easily be used as a portable hard drive if needed
    • It has great capacity, battery life, nice slim form factor, gapless playback (impressive, one of the only devices with this ability), games/extras (such as calendar, etc.), external hard drive capability, and auto playlists.
    • I opted for the 80 GB model, since my laptop's hard drive is only 160 GB and it didn't make sense to get an iPod with more space than my hard drive
    • I had to pay a local repairmen to replace my iPod's hard drive and recover the files.
    • Be cautious though, since this is a hard drive device
    • Recalling this is basically a tiny hard drive, Apple hasn't gotten the hardware or software right and iced this with crippling the video capabilities of the device without telling anyone before hand.
    • and I actually use my ipod as a hard drive (being a teacher).
    • But thats a universal hard drive conspiracy of its own
    • I think the reason for all this is the hard drive; when you browse, the drive has to churn very quickly, draining the battery
    • When it was about 3 months old, the drive hit 40gb and refused to go any further, not one MB.
    • I received this as a requested Christmas gift and was very much looking forward to having an easily portable drive that could play my CD collection at home as well as at work with docking stations, or, wherever I chose with the headphones.
    • I had to transfer all my music to an external hard drive, and change where the songs would be stored, holy crap
    • So, a week after my iPod arrived, the hard drive died
    • I had to pay a local repairmen to replace my iPod's hard drive and recover the files.
    • My two complaints are that it is slow to respond at times (presumably due to the fact that it must access the hard drive), and that there is no user-customizable EQ setting.
    • The perfect i pod for people with a lot of music and videos.
    • Apple 80 GB iPod classic (Black)I still remember my first iPod
