I have a digital virtual analog keyboard (M-Audio Venom) in my studio, and it sounds great and does its own thing well

The only other decent analog synths available for less than this price are the korg volca series synths, which look and feel like Happy meal toys

This is an utterly fantastic analog synthesizer, and I recommend it wholeheartedly

This is clearly a powerful analog synthesizer for a great price, but I still found it to be far too complicated and limited

If you want more notes or more options on that front, you either need a much more expensive analog synth or a digital synth such as a MicroKorg.6

For those who know a bit more about analog but maybe haven't followed Arturia, the Microbrute and its bigger brother the Minibrute were big surprises when they came out - proof that an outstanding analog synth could be had for a small amount of money, and proof that everyone wanted an analog synth

Arturia and Korg have done a great job during the past year or two in bringing some classic analog instruments within the price range of the hobbyist

If you poke around the hardware synth scene for long, you'll see people talking about the new, inexpensive analog synths as though they were "toys

If you're looking for a really versatile analog synth that can reproduce an enormous array of different sounds and do things like "hey I heard this synth on this one

Another thought is you have either analog guitar petals for chorus or digital effects for chorus, that will “warm up

Good first analog synth to learn about synthesis but not be overwhelmed by too much at the same time for a good price

In my opinion, the mark of a good analog synth is a combination of an easily manipulatable interface, a function set as diverse as possible, compatibility with my other equipment, and affordability

Additionally, the Microbrute can more easily produce authentic analog sounds because it *is* an analog machine

The keyboard does sound like a lot of classic analog keyboards in the 1970's / 1980's but with modern controller and input \ output that makes it unique

That didn't go as planned, but I enjoy making pretty and strange analog music with it.

But the modeling synths have significant shortcomings in comparison to an analog synth like the Microbrute

If you're willing to commit to a bit of a learning curve and to spend the time dialing it in, the unit will produce some very authentic analog sounds

After using this synth for a few days I think I can finally grasp analog synthesis and apply it to more complex analog and virtual analog synthesis.

This is normally all you need for bass lines or leads, but if you want an affordable analog synth that can play more notes, consider a Korg Volca Keys or maybe a Volca Bass
