I also looked in the settings on the phone and it does show that it is charging significantly more quickly than it would have while "slow charging" with the other cable, but it does not engage the "fast charging" mode

In fact, if I'm using the phone while it's plugged in, it can't keep up and will still slowly lose charge.

My wife and I needed to be able to charge our Samsung Galaxy S8's simultaneously, when we travel, so this unit with enough amperage output, allows us both to fast charge.

Using several OEM Samsung 8 cords, the phones display "slow charging".

Feels cheap, doesn't get in the car charger slot smoothly, kind of a pain to remove, have to tweak sometimes for the contact and the charge to really work

As far as charging is concerned, this is the faster I've used in my car for one you need to provide the cable for, the ones with the cable built into them do work faster, but are usually retractable which means less wiggle room to place your phone

it doesn't do a Fast Charge, but ii does do a good job of charging without heating the plug.

My phone complains that it is charging slowly

4 will not charge, it shows charging but battery percentage will not go up, Note sure if it has something to do fast charging or maybe it needs a special USB cable to make it work

While this charger was able to sustain both high draw devices, it was not enough to replenish any lost charge.

it does a good standard charge, I ended up getting rid of the Cruze, but kept the charger, the Galaxy 7s and 7s Edge demand more juice and a standard car charger and this does do the job,

That said it still provides a faster charge than cheap units but is not quite a fast as my quickcharge 3.0 wall warts

Note that some newer Samsung phones use proprietary adaptive higher-voltage quick charge, rather than a higher current, so that isn't supported even with this 2.4A per USB socket.
