Do yourself a BIG favor and get the SoftStep instead, it has software, a midi cable, it's more compact, looks nicer, and works the way a modern midi controller should, all for only $50 more.

This is an awesome controller for the price

It takes work to program it the way you like it, just like any other midi controller, and it works great as a guitar effects controller without the stompbox chip mods (unless you really want the lights to toggle).
