That adapter SCREWS onto the 3.5 mm plug, while looks like a clever idea, the 3.5 mm plug is in plastic molding, and when you screw it in it can start rotating within that molding, it can get stuck and impossible to unscrew it as it almost freely rotates in its molding, and that breaks the wires inside, so you lose contact and they become useless

I suspect that the wiring is damaged or defective
