Belkin Single Outlet SurgeCube Surge Protector, 1080 Joules

    • I feel I have a pretty good system that will suppress most surges, but am not foolish enough to believe my surge suppression configuration can withstand any surge: A nearby lightning strike can certainly destroy all the equipment
    • Had a lightning strike take out my garage door opener
    • We bought this surge protector to use on our refrigerator because electric company power surges and lightning strikes kept ruining the computer board in it which cost $150 and that's without installation (after the first board was installed we learned how to do it ourselves)
    • Before I bought them, I lost 2 TVs, my jacuzzi tub controls, and my cordless phones to lightning strike
    • Put this on and no problems despite many lightning strikes in Florida.
    • We've had this on our refrigerator for eight years now, had countless lightning strikes and electric company surges, and we have not had to replace a computer board yet and the protector shows that it's still protecting.
    • They've proven themselves multiple times during multiple storms that included direct lightning strikes on or near our house (yes, we have good lightning rods as well)
    • Have not had a failure of a unit over the past two years, and we've had no damage to any major electronics in our home from lightning strikes or power failures.
    • And the one person I know who did, his electronics were unaffected by subsequent lightning strikes, but the surge protector was no longer protecting.
    • Or how many of those lightning strikes happened AFTER the surge protector was busted, but still allowed power (and surges) to pass through.
    • The warranty claim of Belkin and great reviews were hard to pass up...and a hard lesson that words on a piece of paper do not mean much."The Story":One night I was watching TV on my projector when a storm rolled in and lightning struck near by.

    • Most surge suppressors use a device called a MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) which absorbs energy from spikes, but usually the device has only one MOV between hot and neutral (H-N)
