You will want to make sure you have a decent gaming headset as the speakers are pretty bad, but I do not think the speakers take away from the monitor at all

My only issue with the monitor is that sound goes through HDMI even after switching to optical audio out on my system, causing sound to come through the speakers on my monitor as well as through my gaming headset, and You can't turn the sound off in the monitor settings
