...why anyone would use these: they're really thick (making them very awkward: best used for strumming only, not for picking), and they make a scratchy sound (like you'd get by dragging a Brillo pad across a set of strings; these are, for all intents and purposes, tiny Brillo pads made of stiff felt).

The difference between a pick and finger style - picks will increase your speed moving from string to string and will increase the audible sounds from your instrument.
