That lag is not an issue with the protocol talking to the speakers - even if you use the line-in jack on one speaker (where the other speaker is slaved from that one), the lag is still present.

(none techy rest of the family) SOOO, music was the main purpose for the DOT, which is nullified by this crappy bluetooth speaker.

If your desire is to use these speakers independently via bluetooth, you'll be fine and probably more than satisfied, but you can find less expensive speakers for that.
