I had a solid state amp, with no distortion.
-
It can push overdriven amps quite well, though with more gain than an average overdrive pedal, and can stack with overdrive pedals
-
This effect sounds really good through a fat cab or a larger amp that can let the cabinet give the tone a little color
-
That said, if you have a tube amp or play guitars with humbucking style pickups through decent solid state amps, you may like it
-
I tried it on both my amps (My practic amp: a solid state Fender Frontman 25R, and my big amp, the B-52 AT100, which is a 100w tube halfstack
-
Don't buy these to play on a clean channel or even worse on a Solid State amp.
-
I've used it on Marshall solid state amps and Vox tube amps.
-
Pickups like P-90's are a bit better for this, but for the best sound, a hum canceling pickup like the Gibson PAF (insert your own favorite here) works best when playing with distortion, so in my opinion, if you have a solid state amp you will want to put some thought into what guitar and pedal you want to use with it (assuming you have a selection of them, like I do), or, to put it another way, if you only have one guitar (and know how to use it!
-
But, you really need to get a good tube amp to play it through to get a good sound
-
I have owned numerous distortion pedals and amps
-
The better the amp, the better this thing shines.
-
It will give your amp a boost for solos and turn a clean amp into a dirty girl
-
(I mean, it's a good amp, but not like those nice tube amps)
-
but not so heavy that you can do modern metal if running into a clean amp - if that makes any sense
-
For the price this is one of the best distortion boxes available, it works quite well into a clean sounding amp like the little Quilter Micro Block
-
With the exception of 'modeler' type pedals from companies like Tech 21, I do not think that any dirtboxes- this included- perform optimally when run into a solid state amp.
-
It doesn't really make a solid-state amp sound like a tube amp, it's just a very honest distortion
-
Be aware, however, that you need to be running a clean-sounding amp and your guitar on whatever the cleanest selector setting it has is.
-
, it really can make your practice amp sound like a big ragin' stack!
-
and I have a much better guitar and amp and a lot more knowledge.
-
If you have a decent tube amp, look elsewhere, because with this pedal, you get what you pay for, and it simply will not do a quality amp justice.
-
it's a very generic-sounding distortion and is not really useful for much beyond a lead boost into an already distorted amp.
-
No pedal is going to make a crappy solid state amp and $300 guitar sound fantastic
-
For $29.95ish this pedal saved my little solid state amp... which was probably worth about the same.
-
It is not a terribly loud pedal and it will not make a crappy amp sound decent
-
No pedal is going to make a crappy solid state amp and $300 guitar sound fantastic

Jazzmaster). To me, Fender style guitars and pickups have a tendency to sound a bit thin played through distortion pedals and solid state amps
-
Physically, the pedal is a tank, I don't think they can be killed as I let my 16 year old use
-
I use the orange micro dark as clean as I can get it, and set the volume and shape knobs accordingly
-
I can use this and turn up the tone to play a tone filled, dirty Mötley Crüe song, and on the other side, I can turn it down and get a deep rumble and play some Black Sabbath and anywhere in between
