    BOSS DS-1 Distortion Pedal

    • I must say that I don't use it on a daily basis, but still, for the time I have had this thing It gave me great sound great
    • Great sound if you looking for a distortion and not sure
    • It's got an excellent distortion sound and has great pickup attack.
    • But as a platform for great-sounding mods, you can't go wrong.
    • This pedal generates a very cool sound which is great especially when performing live!
    • It gives you that simple gritty sound
    • It gives great sounds and ease of use for dialing in settings
    • The distortion isn't perfect, but for the price I was still really enjoying the sound it produced and couldn't ask for anything more as a beginner.
    • Constructed well looks good sounds less than average
    • It works well with any amp I've tried it on, and you can find tons of great sounds.
    • it has good sound
    • I recently bought what must be my third or fourth and am still very happy with the sound, the tone, the durability and the ability it has to become a very violent sounding little gadget
    • it gives your guitar an extra set of balls, even though my Eastwood Gemini already came with a set, the DS-1 gives it an evil sounding mean tone
    • v good sound, only bad thing is i am physically unable to play
    • But, for the price, I think it's still a great sound
    • Great Sound as you Expected!
    • It's the same sound as the original orange DS-1; that classic solid-state distortion that's a little noisy, heavier than the SD-1 or those Tube Screamer type pedals
    • Great sound
    • Pickups like P-90's are a bit better for this, but for the best sound, a hum canceling pickup like the Gibson PAF (insert your own favorite here) works best when playing with distortion, so in my opinion, if you have a solid state amp you will want to put some thought into what guitar and pedal you want to use with it (assuming you have a selection of them, like I do), or, to put it another way, if you only have one guitar (and know how to use it!
    • On the other hand, as someone noted, if you have a tube amp, or, as I said above, a Gibson or Epiphone style guitar you might like the sound of this one
    • Very nice sound, and can produce a wide range of sounds for a good price
    • But, you really need to get a good tube amp to play it through to get a good sound
    • It distorts sound, not quite the way you would imagine though
    • It turned my Boss DS1 distortion into a fantastic, way more expensive sounding pedal
    • It's really easy to use and the sound is great
    • Its great for getting a "big amp" kind of sound out of a small practice amp.
    • As a general rule, I don't really use sound effects these days (mostly because I like the sound of my amp - crazy, huh?
    • The sound is amazing!
    • From Greg Abrams review, entitled "For all but the tone snobs," a review further down on this product's page:"Alright, so you want to get a good (if somewhat "basic") distortion sound for less than $100
    • It wasn't bad just not quite the distortion sound that I wanted.
    • For the price this is one of the best distortion boxes available, it works quite well into a clean sounding amp like the little Quilter Micro Block
    • It turned my Boss DS1 distortion into a fantastic, way more expensive sounding pedal
    • It doesn't really make a solid-state amp sound like a tube amp, it's just a very honest distortion
    • The not-quite-tube like dynamics actually benefit my sound in this setup as the preamp is doing all the tuby stuff
    • It's not exactly the sound I was looking for to begin with, but I fell in love with it
    • The tone knob goes from a dark thick sound to a bright, thinner and progressively less bassy one
    • My DS-1 is always in my rig and is my go-to lead sound
    • You can find all kinds of usable sounds by adjusting tone/level along with your amps gain
    • Sure its a BOSS, so its not going to break, but the distortion is just awful sounding
    • Be aware, however, that you need to be running a clean-sounding amp and your guitar on whatever the cleanest selector setting it has is.
    • although it does not give as much distortion as the BOSS DS-2 or MD-1, the BOSS DS-1 give you a great sound with small amounts of feedback for the cheap price of about 40 dollars where the DS-2 and MD-1 cost
    • A lot of people asking how a small equipment can generate such great sound.
    • Makes some very sweet sounds.
    • and I love the sound the pedal plays well with others
    • Great box -- perfect sound and great price.
    • and it gives a very messy noise, but then roll down the tone and limit the distortion and it becomes a fantastic sounding stomp box that gives great depth and feel to even the cheapest, crappiest chinese plywood guitar
    • but It has great sound.
    • You can dial the tone in, but it's a pretty harsh sounding
    • Great sounds and simple to use!!
    • I used a pedal that had 200 different preset sounds on it, and while the sounds were pretty cool and all
    • No pedal is going to make a crappy solid state amp and $300 guitar sound fantastic
    • , it killed it and everyone loved the sound!
    • Some of my favorite sounds from
    • As a general rule, I don't really use sound effects these days (mostly because I like the sound of my amp - crazy, huh?
    • But the DS-1 sound is unacceptable.
    • Alright, so you want to get a good (if somewhat "basic") distortion sound for less than $100
    • It produces an incredible sound
    • Vox's, Ampegs, even a 1980's Yamaha, and still that metallic, hollow sound comes through.
    • It is not a terribly loud pedal and it will not make a crappy amp sound decent
    • you have a nice clean sound with a bit of hair....bring it up and it gets bluesy and heavier, but it doesn't have a mid bump like TS style...which is good
    • A classic pedal with a classic sound.
    • You can certainly dial in a solid distortion sound for your guitar or other electric instruments, but I recommend you use it with a noise gate as well, in order to cut down on some of the unwanted frequencies and popping sounds.
    • This pedal has been around since the 80`sThe distortion isnt a repackaged reproduced boutique pedal its a straight forward clean distortion pedal with no BS.I have owned hundreds of distortion pedals and always came back to this one and said:WOW,I still like this sound after so many years of owning so much junk.
    • It's Tone knob gives the sound a more thick, almost muddy sound when turned to the left, while turning it to the right gives it a much more clear, defined, but treble-y sound.
    • The distortion was harsh, thin, artificial sounding and always noisy.
    • Great sound.
    • They build rock solid pedals, and versatile sounds.
    • Sometimes I wish the pedal had a little more bass response to it, and you can forget rich tube-y harmonics, but then the idea is to get a brighter, more cutting sound, so I can't really complain
    • It can give a great Classic Rock & Rock n' Roll tone, or even a heavier, Pantera-like tone
